The front plaza of Xiangtan Railway Station is used by passengers day and night. The city selected our LED luminaires to make the square brighter and more even while reducing energy use and light pollution. The lighting was handed over in August 2022.
Design notes: lighting a station plaza
General design guidance for this type of site, not the specification of this project.
- Many users, many directions. A plaza is crossed in every direction by passengers with luggage, taxis and buses. The light should be even across the whole square, with extra light at entrances, crossings and drop-off points.
- Vertical light and faces. For safety and cameras, light on people’s faces matters as much as light on the ground.
- Tall poles or high masts keep the square open and reduce the number of poles; lower decorative lights frame paths and seating areas.
- Light pollution. Cut-off optics keep light on the square and away from the sky and nearby windows.
See our LED street lights and garden and landscape lights, and check pole spacing for an open area with the pole height and spacing calculator.
