The paths and gardens around the Xianggang administrative centre are used by thousands of employees on their way home after their shifts. In December 2025 we replaced the old garden lights with new LED post-top fittings.
Design notes: lighting campus paths and gardens
General design guidance for this type of site, not the specification of this project.
- Light for people, not cars. Paths need enough light to recognise faces and see steps and kerbs, typically a few lux to around 10 lx on the ground, plus some vertical light on people’s faces.
- Low glare. Post-top lanterns with diffusers or shielded optics at 3–4 m feel comfortable to walk past; bare bright sources dazzle.
- Spacing. Post-tops are usually spaced 4–6 times their height apart; closer at path junctions, steps and building entrances.
- Warm light. 3000 K or warmer suits gardens and is kinder to wildlife and neighbours.
- Controls. Dimming late at night, with full output at shift-change times, saves energy without leaving paths dark.
