Shuangyong Road runs through central Xiangtan. We supplied the LED street lighting for all three of its sections: north, middle and south.
Design notes: lighting a central city road
General design guidance for this type of site, not the specification of this project.
- Several sections, one standard. A road that changes character along its length (shopping street, junctions, residential stretch) is usually lit to the class each section needs, while keeping the same fitting family so that spares and appearance are uniform.
- Junctions and crossings need more light than the straight sections, both on the road and vertically on pedestrians.
- Pole spacing about 3–3.5 times the mounting height; one-sided layouts for roads about as wide as the poles are tall, staggered or opposite layouts for wider ones.
- Colour temperature. Many cities now choose 3000–4000 K for central streets, balancing efficacy, colour rendering and glare.
Check a layout for your own road in the pole height and spacing calculator, and estimate the savings of replacing sodium lamps with the LED retrofit calculator. See our LED street lights.
