Toll plazas need bright, glare-free light under the canopy so that drivers and staff can see clearly at night. Our fittings light the canopy and the lanes of this expressway toll station.
Design notes: lighting a toll plaza
General design guidance for this type of site, not the specification of this project.
- Canopy lighting. Toll lanes under a canopy need bright, even light so that drivers, staff and cameras can see plates, cash and barriers clearly, with little glare for drivers arriving from a dark highway.
- Transition. The approach road is usually lit to raise the light level gradually before the canopy, so drivers’ eyes are not dazzled.
- Reliability. Toll plazas run all night, every night; long-life drivers, surge protection and a lighting control system reduce failures and energy.
- Cleaning. Canopy fittings collect exhaust dirt; IP65–IP66 housings with flat glass are easier to keep clean.
